  • Interested in having more teaching experience on your résumé?
  • Passionate about working with public school students in afterschool programs?

The New York Academy of Sciences announces: the New York Academy of Sciences Afterschool STEM Mentoring Program. The program will train Academy Education Fellows—eligible graduate students and post-doctoral fellows engaged in STEM fields—to teach engaging, hands-on afterschool science enrichment courses in middle schools across New York City and Newark, NJ.

We are entering our second year of partnership with the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development. We are pleased to announce our second city—Newark, NJ—and our partner Citizen Schools.

To be placed as a Fellow you must:

  • Be a graduate student or postdoc in a STEM field
  • Complete a pedagogy and curriculum workshop

Fellows who complete 24 hours of teaching and training will receive the New York Academy of Sciences Education Fellow Teaching Credential.

We have chosen a range of curriculum choices to match your content area, schedule, geographic location, and level of commitment with special attention to supporting you through curriculum and pedagogy training through support from NYAS and curriculum partner staff, an online network of peers and supporters, and social events to check in with your peers. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, you will be matched up with an afterschool site and instructor who will be there to support you at the site and help you work with the students.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis through early September and workshops will begin in mid-September.
